The Park Shore Kindness Curriculum:

Teaching the values and skills children need to grow into happy, productive, and caring people

What is the key to raising a happy well-adjusted school age child?  Is it enough for us to say that my child could read before the age of four, or that they spoke their first words at 9 months old?  Is it our proudest moment when we can boast that the teacher said “My child’s at the top of the class”? While all these things are great, the true character of a child cannot be measured in a grade, a report card, or a teacher’s comment but it can be measured by the genuine kindness a child has in their heart.
Can kindness be taught?
Yes! Kindness like manners can become an inherent response to situations and leads children on the road to becoming a kind and considerate person. The definition of kindness is “The quality of being a friendly, generous, considerate and sympathetic human being.” All these characteristics can be taught in everyday situations in the classroom and playgrounds.
The Park Shore Kindness Curriculum will utilize modeling, practicing and role-play through a series of Kindness Curriculum activities designed to promote:
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Emotion regulation
  • Pro-social skills
  • Anti-Bullying
  • Manners
  • Social Strategies
  • Self-Regulation
  • Sharing and turn-taking
  • Cooperation and compromise
  • Resolving conflicts in peaceful ways
  • Positive character development
  • Compassion for others
  • Inclusion
  • Listening and respecting others
This year Park Shore will incorporate a Kindness Program to our curriculum. We will encourage our students to foster a caring behavior that will lead to strong healthy relationships with their peers, teachers and family members.
