March 2020 News from the Computer & Tech Lab

Interactive learning at its best!

Dear Park Shore Families,

For the month of February, we really focused on our math skills and sight words. I added so many new apps on the iPads to help the students work on different math subjects such as patterns, addition, number values as well as a few sight word apps.

With Toddlers, we have been working on counting and shapes. With the Threes we have been figuring out missing numbers while counting a number line on the SmartBoard. We have been using the iPads to work on eye and hand coordination, as well as critical thinking, working on sorting apps. Many of the children have worked their way up from the easiest levels to the harder levels by the end of the month. I also introduced virtual memory games I added to the iPads.

For Pre-K we have been working on number families and basic addition skills. I downloaded an amazing math app that the kids really enjoy playing with. Slater Math has many different games that work on patterns, addition, size ordering and greater than/less than. We also used styluses to write out sight words and working on letter sounds that make up the words.

Kindergarten has been playing one of my newer math games, Monster Math, where they must pop bubbles with additional equations to the number on their screen. The children quickly started to memorize basic equations and feel more confident with their math skills. I also introduced another app that sounds out the letters of a word and they must plug in the correct letters to make the word. They get so excited when they get the letters in the right order!

Robotics for PreK

This month we focused on our robot friend, Dash. We used two different apps to learn how to make Dash move and do tricks. Some friends even got to hear special, personalized messages from Dash! We learned that using an iPad to control a robot can be hard but it’s fun to have your friends make a tunnel with their legs for Dash to travel through! We also introduced a new coding app, Coding Safari, where we used code to help safari animals get to their homes. For March we will be hanging out with a new robot friend and talking about the differences between the two.

March is coming in like a Lion and these little lambs are so eager to enjoy their time in my class. With Pre-K and Kindergarten, we will be testing the waters with some subtraction and working on easy reading sentences this month. Three’s will get introduced to some easy addition and Toddlers will work on their number recognition using pictures.

I’m excited about how amazing the children are doing with all the new additions to the program I’ve been working on and can’t wait to introduce everything I have planned!

Sincerely,

Miss Krystal
