March 2019 News from the Computer & Tech Lab

Interactive learning at its best!

Dear Park Shore Families,
March comes in like a lion, they say…and based on the weather over the past few weeks that is certainly true! I hope everyone is staying warm and is enjoying the snow when it comes – I know my kids are!
February was a busy month with celebrations of the 100th day of school and Valentine’s Day! The children returned from the winter break excited to learn and play on the technology in our lab.
There is a positive visible difference in the children’s overall skills that they demonstrate on the technology, such as their fine motor skills when tracing letters and numbers on the iPads, as well as their understanding of how to “navigate” through the various apps and programs. I have spent time focusing on following directions on how to access certain games and how to play when they get there. They improve every day!
The SMART board is a large part of our interactive learning curriculum and we continue to review the letter of the week with our fun learning games and videos. Most classes have completed or are on their way to completing though the letter S, with our fun learning videos such as “You can’t have Q without U!”. I showed a beautiful video for the letter R called the Rainbow Song, which is an animated video and song created by Miss Shari’s daughter that celebrates the differences in all of us and fosters kindness and compassion! We practiced our letter tracing with Rainbow writing on ABCMouse.com, and colored rainbows as well!
Later this week we will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with great learning videos about his life and online rhyming games, as well as wonderful coloring apps that bring his books to life!
Eventually the weather will begin to turn warm and we will celebrate spring with many exciting learning videos about season changes and all things spring!
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions about the apps and programs that we use in class, or with suggestions or recommendations that you may have experienced on applications your children have used and enjoy at home.
Thank you for sharing the joy of your children with us every day! Until next month…
Sincerely,
Miss Samantha
