January News from the Computer Science and Technology Lab

Interactive learning at its best!

Dear Park Shore Families,

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the time off with your family and friends!

December was a busy and festive month for us in Computer Science! We kicked off December by participating in the Hour of Code. The kids did an amazing job and I am so proud of them. The holidays would not be the same at Park Shore without festive and creative learning games in Computers! In order to prepare for the season, the children designed wonderful winter and seasonal pictures on abcya.com, as well as other beautiful holiday and seasonal creations on abcmouse.com.

As we move through numbers and the alphabet, the children continue to receive classroom reinforcement with the learning videos that I present in addition to letter tracing, recognition and number programs on the iPads and the SMART Board. Kindergarten is working hard on their sight words through word recognition programs on abcmouse.com and abcya.com, and I will be working with them on their advanced counting and addition skills using the Slate Math iPad app.

The goal for the second half of the year is to focus on mouse control and overall technology usage and awareness, especially for those students entering Kindergarten and primary school next year.

I gladly welcome any suggestions or recommendations that you may have based on applications your children have used and enjoy at home. Thank you for sharing the joy of your children with us every day! Wishing you much love, laughter and good health for the New Year!

Sincerely,

Miss Samantha
