It’s hard to believe that camp is just around the corner!! Below are a few tips to help you pack your child’s backpack for camp. The first day of camp is such an exciting one. Make sure your child has everything they need each day to make day camp a fun and enjoyable experience.
The Backpack
Label it! Another good tip is to tie a bright colored ribbon or other object to the strap. When all the campers drop their backpacks in a pile, your child will be able to pick theirs out easily.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen should always be applied before your child leaves home for the day! Throughout the day your child’s counselors will alert the children when it is time to reapply. According to the American Pediatric Council, spray sunscreen in NOT recommended. Make sure you label your child’s sunscreen.
Extra Clothes & Bathing Suit
Your child should come to camp wearing their bathing suit under their clothing. Make sure you pack undergarments for your child to change into after swim, a second bathing suit and some extra clothes for younger children – just in case! Make sure your child wears sneakers EVERY DAY. Label all clothing!
Goggles
The Dollar Store is a great source for buying multiple pairs of goggles. They can easily get lost or broken and having a few extra back-up pairs is recommended.
Flip Flops
Pack flip flops if your child would be more comfortable walking to the pool with something on their feet.
Water Bottle
Although Park Shore has many water fountains around camp, many children like to have their own water bottle that they can refill throughout the day. Hydration is so important! Make sure you put your child’s name on the bottle.
Rain Coat
Although we like to think it will always be sunny at Park Shore all summer long it’s important to be prepared in case of rain! Please label!
Gallon Size Plastic Ziplock Bag
This is great for the wet bathing suits. You don’t want all of their things to get wet!
Lunch
What NOT to Pack
Electronics or anything else of value. Valuable and sentimental items can easily be lost or broken. Don’t take a chance sending anything that would be heartbreaking if lost or damaged.
Please also don’t send baseball bats, hockey sticks, toy guns, water pistols, toy knives, or any kind of trading cards to camp.
We can’t wait for the first day of camp! We hope this list has been helpful. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call the Park Shore Team at (631) 499-8580.
