What Are the Park Shore Students Thankful AND Grateful For?

Think of Grateful as being the practice of Thankfulness.

Well, it is the time of year when we get to celebrate Thanksgiving!  The children are learning so much about our history and why we celebrate this special day.  Miss Taneisha has her room all set up with a Thanksgiving theme, setting the tone for our children to sing songs about this wonderful holiday.

As the name implies, Thanksgiving is a holiday about being thankful. This time of year gives us that wonderful feeling. During this season we feel generally thankful for the wonderful things in our lives. Who doesn’t love that??

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “thankful” as “pleased and relieved.” Both of those things are great feelings. I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t want to feel pleased and relieved. But that’s just it; they’re feelings.

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “grateful” as “showing an appreciation of kindness.” This is where the difference lies. Being thankful is a feeling. Being grateful is an action.

Think of Grateful as being the practice of Thankfulness. Our little students are truly thankful for their family and apparently hotdogs! But how can we teach them how to show gratitude?

So we asked some of the children what they were grateful for.  We heard mostly “Mommy and Daddy”, “My Family”, a few “Toys” and of course the funny ones! You will be happy to know that some of our children are grateful for: Haircuts, Food, Horses, Cars, Trees, Hot Dogs and more! Below is a short video of some of their answers. Enjoy!

We are looking forward to next month as it is a very exciting time of year.

Island Harvest, please bring in any canned or non-perishable items you can.

Enrichment Unit: We will be studying the animals in the wild!

Holiday Celebrations: We will be celebrating, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.

Holiday Sing-along with Miss Taneisha! It wouldn’t be a holiday without songs!

Pajama Day will be on Thursday, December 5th.  All staff and children will be wearing their pajamas with a special treat from our Chef Carrie (freshly baked cookies and milk).

We are happy to bring back our winter session for Academic Adventures starting January 6th! Park Shore is happy to announce we will be adding Sign Language to our menu.

As the colder weather approaches, please dress your children appropriately and LABEL all clothing.

A very warm wish from me to all our families for a Happy Holiday and Healthy New Year!

Sincerely,

Dianne Vitucci
