September 2019 News from the Computer & Tech Lab

Interactive learning at its best!

Dear Park Shore Families,

Happy September! A warm Welcome Back to all our returning families and a special warm welcome to all of the new families joining us this year!  My name is Miss Samantha (but I prefer “Miss Sam”) and I am honored to rejoin the Park Shore staff as your children’s Computer and Technology Teacher!   I can’t believe that this is my 7th year in this position and as a member of the Park Shore staff family. I have seen so many changes in Park Shore’s technology over the course of the past 7 years and I am so proud of how far we have come and the vision of where we are going to bring a superior learning experience to your children!

We are the “T” in STEAM!

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.  At Park Shore, we pride ourselves in delivering a current, cutting edge and fun learning curriculum.  The Park Shore Computer & Technology Lab consists of a combination of iPads, laptops, a brand new interactive SMART Touch Screen and robots.  Every class, no matter what age, will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of the technology in our room while bridging the concepts of the STEAM curriculum.

Interactive Learning

Using limited, age-appropriate learning software and hands-on instruction, the children learn and play as they also develop their hand/eye coordination and keyboard and mouse skills, which are required for most primary schools as early as Kindergarten.  Introducing iPads into our curriculum, along with the use of the interactive SMART Touch Screen, adds a new dimension to your child’s learning experience. The ability to “swipe” a tablet in lieu of clicking a mouse enabled our very young students to participate in new ways.  All the websites, interactive learning games and iPad “apps” tie directly into our curriculum, are age appropriate, rich in creativity, concept building, and are safe and fun!

In addition to exposing your child to new technology, my class is structured to reinforce the standard classroom curriculum. I work directly with our Education Director, Dianne Vitucci and every teacher to design programs specific to the materials covered each week in their classroom.  Creative and dynamic lessons via the SMART Touch Screen and computers are also used to reinforce classroom learning, spotlight authors and books of the week, holidays, seasons, and key concepts covered in the classrooms.

Robotics and Programming for PreK and Kindergarten

I am so proud to continue the programming and robotics program for the children at Park Shore!  Exposure to these concepts at a young age will place them steps above others by providing them with 21st century skills such as problem solving and an understanding of sequential and directional programming.  We will participate in the global Hour of Code event in December and continue with those concepts throughout the remainder of the school year.

It is a privilege and a pleasure to work with your children, and I look forward to all the amazing experiences that we will share!  I openly welcome all questions and suggestions so please feel free to contact me at any time through the main office or via my email below.  Have a wonderful first month of school and I look forward to meeting and seeing your children this week!

Warmly,

Miss Samantha
