Welcome Parents,

I hope you are enjoying some of the last warm days before Fall makes her presence known.  While we have been waiting for the weather to change, the children and I have been busy in the Extreme STEAM Science Lab.

We took what we learned from our chemical reactions last month and expanded on the lesson by learning that the gas we created could be used to fill a balloon.  The children were excited to see a balloon expand without any air.  The children and I all enjoyed the continuing nice weather by getting outdoors and embarking on our very own Park Shore scavenger hunt – unfortunately those pesky squirrels were all hiding which made it hard to complete our scavenger hunt sheets!

My friends all enjoyed meeting Kibo – our friendly interactive Robot.  Kibos main job is to introduce the children to basic coding, as we move through the year we will begin to expand on this skill.  To that end, we will be introducing a new friend, DASH.

As we continued through October, the children were excited to see the leaves start to change color.  We were able collect some beautiful leaves to make leaf rubbings. It was fascinating to see the different patterns created.  As a way to expand on the classroom curriculum, color recognition, each class enjoyed making their very own playdoh in the color they were working on in the classroom.

The children were delighted to make their own water color with a favorite candy, Skittles!!  Not only did the Skittles make lovely shades of color – they smelled yummy.  I hope you enjoyed all our little artist’s drawings.  In honor of Columbus Day all the classes tried to guess which material would make the best boat.  We then tested our hypothesis by using Lego mini-figures to see which boat held the most.  The children loved seeing all our Super Heros in our boats.  Ask the children who was floating!  The toddlers simply enjoyed making their own boats and some fun water play!

As Halloween  approaches all age groups will enjoy making some Halloween slime and learn some Spooky density!  The children will explore parts of a pumpkin using our Scientific method and science tools.  Over the winter we will try to grown a pumpkin in a container using some of the seeds we examine.

As we look into November, wow already,  we will explore how germs are spread and ways to avoid them.  We will also explore some sorting and simple balances and charting.

Until next time dear parents, enjoy the  and I will speak to you next month!!

Sincerely,

Miss Tina
