Wow, the end of camp is here. For many of us, each year the summer seems to fly by, but looking back, did it really? Some say camp is ONLY 39 days but it is actually a large chunk of time. In a typical 365 day year, 39 days represents 10.6% of the whole year and in a usual 92 day summer, 39 days at camp is over 42% of the time, with the rest being weekends and school (sorry, too soon!).
Looking back, because 39 days is such a big period of time we were able to do a lot of incredible things at camp this summer! Here are only some of them:
We began the first week of camp getting to know each other and taking our group pictures on photo day. Week 2 we celebrated Independence Day, went down the water slides, and laughed hysterically at the Jester Jim Show. Week 3 brought us the return of the ever-popular Aqua Zumba and our first ever Nerd Day, which led to some great photos of the campers’ outfits. Week 4 was highlighted by the carnival, the World Cup, which was won by the Angels and Vikings, and the annual Steve Max Show- congratulations to Melanie Shayowitz and Eric Perles for winning the competition!
During week 5 we had the Tic Tac Toe finals, where the Mariners and Vikings emerged victorious and all directors received a pie in the face, much to the delight of the campers! The week was capped off by the Mermaids winning the Senior skit competition. In week 6 the Canaries won the skit competition for the Junior division and a Mardi Gras/Cirque du Soleil performance led to the outbreak of Color War!
Week 7 the games officially began and by Wednesday we all cheered during the Amazing Race and later the Blue team celebrated their victory! To conclude the week, the Extreme STEAM Science Kids campers had amazing hands-on experience using the Da Vinci Surgical robot and the Vikings were crowned World Series Champions.
For the last week of camp, Week 8, we had our traditional Park Shore Pageant, our Performing Arts program debuted their latest show, “The Descendants” to rave reviews, and the Extreme STEAM Science Kids sailed the seas in their annual regatta. Finally, we said goodbye to the summer of 2016 together at the Dream Field and remembered all the great times we had at camp.
So, if you’ve read this far, you know how much can happen in 39 days. The accompanying video will give you an even better idea of all the fun we’ve had. If you really want a big number, we will leave you with this: 311. That is the number of days until camp begins next year. Until then, we wish you a happy, healthy, and safe school year. We hope the time flies by so we can see you again real soon!
